Gold Coast Highway Upgrade – Broadbeach to Miami Stage 1: Broadbeach to Mermaid Beach

Rain has disrupted roadwork's at Mermaid Beach
· two southbound lanes closed (one open)
· traffic delays expected
Main Roads is appealing to the motorists to avoid a section of the Gold Coast Highway at Mermaid Beach today, where rain interrupted reconstruction works overnight in the southbound lanes.
Only one lane of highway is open through the intersection at Pacific Fair Drive, where old road pavement on two southbound lanes has been removed and the excavation cannot be refilled with new asphalt until it stops raining.
This means - until weather permits - two southbound lanes of the Gold Coast Highway will remain closed between Alexandra Avenue and Peerless Avenue.
The third, outer, bus lane is open, providing access to Mermaid Avenue and motels.
The closed section is less than 100 metres long and the closure will also prevent all southbound traffic turning into Pacific Fair.
Southbound traffic on the highway at Broadbeach is being advised to detour at Hooker Boulevard and take routes - such as Sunshine Boulevard, Rio Vista Boulevard or Bermuda Street.
Southbound motorists travelling to Mermaid Beach destinations are reminded that cross street connections through to the Gold Coast Highway are available at Surfers Avenue and Markeri Street.
South of Peerless Avenue all other sections of the Gold Coast Highway at Mermaid Beach are open today, both north and south bound.
Based on the current weather forecast Main Roads is not expecting to be able to re-open the two lanes before Saturday, although the project managers will monitor the situation closely..
Main Roads apologises for this inconvenience and thanks the motoring public for their continuing patience.
