Road Works Information
Below is a list of the current road work that may affect traffic flow on major South Coast Hinterland Roads. Click here for Main Roads Road Project Information.
1. GOLD COAST CITY—GOLD COAST HIGHWAY UPGRADE AND BUSLANES (Broadbeach to Miami)
Construction of Stage 1 is nearing completion, with concreting, fencing, electrical works for signals and street lighting, and median landscaping all underway. Further work on four new sets of traffic signals could cause lane closures for short periods during the day, but these will be in off-peak times. In the evenings, from about 8pm, the line-markers are progressively line-marking the length of the project. Motorists should expect frequent changes to lane closures during these works, and are urged to observe the 40km/h speed limit and follow the roadside signs and directions.
2. GOLD COAST CITY-SOUTHPORT-Smith Street and North Street (Brooke Avenue / Beale St to Tate Street)
On Thursday 28 August, construction of the final asphalt layer will begin. This work will start in the eastbound right lane from the high school through to Tate Street, and traffic on Smith and North streets will be directed onto the left lane at this time. Asphalting will then move to the westbound right lane, and traffic will again be diverted to the left lane. After the right lane is asphalted, the works will progress to asphalting the T3 and left lane in both directions. During these works, north and southbound access to High Street, at the temporary roundabout, will be affected periodically and motorists will need to follow detour signs. Short disruptions and road closures will also affect access to King street, George Street, Tate Street, and the Smith Street section behind Baden-Powell Park.
3. GOLD COAST CITY—NERANG—Pacific Motorway (Exit 73—Nerang South Interchange)
The deck units for the new bridge are scheduled for placement on Monday, 25 August to Thursday, 28 August, 7.00pm to 5.00am. During these night works traffic on the Pacific Motorway will be reduced to one lane, detoured and travelling at 40km/h. Motorists should expect short delays and consider taking alternative routes if convenient. The Nielsens Road bridge maximum vehicle height on the motorway is 5.2m. This height restriction will be in place for approximately 3 months during the construction of the new bridge. Concrete works are well advanced adjacent to the northbound traffic lanes on the motorway for the construction of a 400m long retaining wall. The road construction on the eastern side of the motorway is progressing well, with the asphalt works commencing and pavement works continuing. Spencer Road is one lane only from Indy Court to Nielsens Road, and this arrangement will continue for approximately two months. Once Spencer Road is reinstated to two directional traffic flow, Hinkler Drive will be closed from the Alexander Drive roundabout to Page Court. Motorists wishing to travel along Hinkler Drive will be redirected to travel along Spencer Road.
GOLD COAST CITY-HELENSVALE - Hope Island Road
Roadwork's on Hope Island Road from Anaheim Drive to Gracemere Drive are well underway and are scheduled for completion by September 2008. Two lanes in each direction are operational for traffic, except in the Robinson Creek Bridge area. Traffic will be diverted to a single lane each way at this road section, including the new Robinson Creek Bridge . This arrangement will remain in place until the completion of the second new bridge in September 2008. Motorists are advised to drive carefully and follow the directions of the controllers and roadside signs.
GOLD COAST CITY-OXENFORD - Tamborine-Oxenford Road Deviation
Construction work on the deviation is underway and traffic between Riversdale Drive and Old Pacific Highway has been reduced to 40km/h from Monday to Saturday between 7am and 5pm.
