Road Works Information
Below is a list of the current roadworks that may affect traffic flow on major Metropolitan Roads. Click here for information on Main Roads major projects in the Brisbane and Ipswich areas.
Acacia Ridge
Main Roads is upgrading Beaudesert Road between Granard Road and Compton Road at Acacia Ridge. Work will be carried out between 7pm and 4am, Sunday to Thursday and should be completed by late November 2008, weather permitting. Further information. MR Project Manager on 0403 344 683.
Alexandra Hills
Main Roads is upgrading Redland Bay Road to four lanes from Vienna Road to Duncan Road at Alexandra Hills. Work will be carried out between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Some night work may also be required, Work should be completed in early 2009. Speed has been reduced to 60 km/h through the worksite. Further information. MR Project Manager on 3206 3218.
Alexandra Hills
Traffic on Redland Bay Road will be switched to the newly completed section of road between Vienna Road and Duncan Road from Friday 22 August 2008. Work on the existing road will take place from Monday to Saturday between 7am to 5pm. Traffic control will be in place and motorists are asked to follow signage and directions. Bald Hills
Main Roads is undertaking drainage work on Strathpine Rd from Hunter Lane to Attley St. Work will take place on weeknights between 7pm and 4am. Work is scheduled to be completed by mid September 2008 weather permitting. For more information regarding these works, contact the Site Manager on 0439769217.
Bowen Hills
To assist with construction of the Northern Busway, traffic changes including multiple lane closures will be occurring along Bowen Bridge Road between Northey Street & Gregory Terrace from mid-July to December 2008. Lane closures will also affect Herston Road, Butterfield Street, O’Connell Terrace & Campbell Street. The majority of these works will occur between 9.00pm & 5.00am but some daytime closures will occur. Delays can be expected. For more information, please contact the project hotline on 1800 289 210.
Bowen Hills
To assist with construction of the Northern Busway roadworks will periodically occur along the edge of the Inner City Bypass commencing in July. These works will require single lane closures of both the inbound and outbound lanes at various times including some night works. During week days these closures will be restricted between 8.30am and 3.30pm. These works are expected to continue at regular intervals until the end of December 2008. Bracken Ridge
Main Roads is installing new drainage under the Gateway Motorway at Bracken Ridge Road and John Fisher Drive in Bracken Ridge. Work should be completed by September 2008, weather permitting. Work will be carried out between 7.00am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday. Some night work and weekend work may also be required. Bracken Ridge
The speed limit on Bracken Ridge Road between Barfoot and Bracken Streets will be reduced to 40km/h from Tuesday 5 August 2008 due to road works in the area. The reduced speed will remain in place for approximately 5 weeks until the works are finished.
Brighton
Main Roads will be delivering bridge components at the intersection of the Deagon Deviation and the Hornibrook Highway near Decker Park. There will be short term blocks of the intersection between 2.00am and 5.30am twice a week. Work should be completed by December 2009, weather permitting. Brisbane City
Tank St and North Quay will be closed on 28 August from 8pm to 5am for the continuing construction of the Tank St Bridge. Traffic on North Quay will be detoured via the Riverside Expressway. Brisbane City
A full closure of Ann Street between George St and Roma St will be occurring on 31 August from 5:30am to 7:00am. It is anticipated that the closure will cause minor congestion and delays.
Clontarf
Main Roads has begun construction on the Houghton Highway Duplication Project at Clontarf Point, Clontarf. Short-term lane closures will be in place on Hornibrook Esplanade between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays between 6am and 4pm. Work will be completed by 2011, weather permitting. At least one traffic lane in each direction will be maintained between Brighton and Clontarf at all times. Further information MR Project Manager on 0418 785 370.
Darra
The eastbound service road on-ramp from the Centenary Highway Interchange will be permanently closed from 10:00pm, Sunday 31 August 2008, as part of the Ipswich Motorway Upgrade works. Motorists using the eastbound service road on-ramp from the Centenary Highway Interchange to access the Ipswich Road Service Road into Darra will now be required to use alternative exits at Sumner Road Interchange or Harcourt Road, Darra. As part of these works a newly upgraded section of the Ipswich Road Service Road will be opened between Strathaird and Himalaya Streets, Darra on Friday 12 September 2008. Eagle Farm
A full closure of Kingsford Smith Drive will be occurring between Links Avenue and Holt Street from 27 August to 27 September from 7.00pm to 5.00am (nightly) for bridge construction works. It is anticipated that the closure will cause minor disruptions and delays.
Eight Mile Plains
Work to upgrade the intersection of Miles Platting Road and Gardner Road has commenced. Work will be carried out between Monday and Saturday and should be completed by the end of September 2008. For more information, please contact the Brisbane City Council on 3403 8888.
Gailes
Main Road is continuing upgrade work at the Ipswich/Logan interchange on the Ipswich Motorway and has carried out a major traffic change. Access from the Ipswich Motorway (Brisbane bound) to the Logan Motorway has temporarily changed to a right hand exit. Gumdale
A full lane closure will be occurring on Green Camp Rd between New Cleveland Rd and Rickertt Rd from 7.00am 21 July to 5.00pm until 8 September 2008. The road closure is required for the installation of stormwater drainage. It is anticipated that the closure will cause moderate delays.

Jindalee
Main Roads is undertaking landscaping and revegetation works in land adjacent to the Centenary Highway. Works will commence on 25 August and should be completed by Mid September 2008 (weather permitting). Works will take place between 6.00am and 3.00pm Monday to Friday. Kenmore
Main Roads is continuing work on the Moggill Road Upgrade between Kilkivan Avenue (south) and Pullenvale Road, Kenmore. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2008, weather permitting. Work will be carried out Monday to Saturday, 7am to 5pm. Traffic delays may occur due to lane closures and reduced speed limits through the work site. Lanefield
Main Roads is widening and rehabilitating Rosewood-Laidley Rd. Work will be carried out between 7.00am and 4.30pm Monday to Saturday. Work should be completed by late September 2008 (weather permitting). For more information on these works, please contact the Project Manager on 0428 105 426.
Mackenzie
A full road closure will be occurring on Wecker Rd from Mt Petrie Rd to the end of Wecker Rd from 20 August to 20 September 2008 (continuously). The closure is for the purpose of an open trench crossing. Local access will be maintained at all times. It is anticipated that the closure will cause minor disruptions and delays. Mackenzie
A full closure will be occurring on Weedon St East from Mt Petrie Rd to the end of the road from 20 August to 20 September 2008 (continuously). The closure is for the purposes of an open trench crossing. Local access will be maintained at all times. It is anticipated that the closure will cause minor disruptions and delays. Manly West
Brisbane City Council has commenced early works to construct stage 1A of the Tilley Road Extension. To allow electrical services to be relocated, the section of Manly Road between Hargreaves Road and Burnett Street at Manly West will be closed to traffic from 7am to 5pm on Sunday 31 August. Detour signage and traffic controllers will be onsite to direct motorists to use Hargreaves Road and Burnett Street to travel around the road closure. Traffic delays may be experienced. If the works cannot be completed on 31 August, the road will again be closed to traffic on Sunday 7 September to allow the works to be completed. Mansfield
A single westbound lane closure is currently in place on Wecker Road between Newnham Road and Delvan Street (continuously) until mid-September for the purposes of construction works. Moggill
Main Roads is continuing work on the Moggill Road Upgrade between Kilkivan Avenue (south) and Pullenvale Road, Kenmore. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2008, weather permitting. Murrumba Downs
Main Roads is continuing construction to upgrade noise barriers on the Bruce Highway, from Brays Road to Freshwater Creek at Murrumba Downs. Work will be carried out from Monday to Saturday, between 7am and 5pm and is scheduled to be completed by October 2008, weather permitting. Park Ridge
To enable safe construction of the Mt Lindesay Highway Upgrade, Mexicanus Drive access to and from the Mt Lindesay Highway has been closed. Detours are signed and in place. Pullenvale
Main Roads is continuing work on the Moggill Road Upgrade between Kilkivan Avenue (south) and Pullenvale Road, Kenmore. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2008, weather permitting. Richlands
Access to the Centenary Highway roundabout from Bakery Road will be permanently closed from 10:00pm, Sunday 21 September 2008, as part of the Ipswich Motorway Upgrade works. Motorists using the Bakery Road on-ramp to access the Centenary Highway or Ipswich Motorway will now be required to use alternative exits at: Harcourt Road, Sumners Road, Garden Road, Blunder Road, Archerfield Road and Progress Road. In conjunction with this closure, the Centenary Highway, south of the interchange, will be temporarily realigned from Sunday 21 September until May 2009. Rochedale
The Department of Main Roads is undertaking landscaping works on the Pacific Motorway, Rochedale near the Gateway Motorway on and off ramps. Works have commenced and are scheduled to be completed by 12 September 2008, weather permitting. Works are taking pace on weeknights between 8pm and 4am. Rosewood
Main Roads is making safety improvements on Rosewood-Laidley Road between the Rosewood-Marburg Road/Karrabin-Rosewood Road roundabout and Doonans Road at Rosewood. Work will be carried out between 8am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday and should be completed by June 2009, weather permitting. Minor lane closures and reduced speed limits. Rosewood

Sherwood
Until the end of October 2008, one lane will be intermittently closed to Honour Ave between Jordan St and Sherwood Rd at Sherwood (weather permitting). The closures will be from Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm and Saturdays between 7am-3pm. Traffic control will be in place and the speed limit will be reduced to 40km/hr. Springfield Lakes
Main Roads is extending the Centenary Highway from Springfield to Yamanto. The project involves extending the two-lane Centenary Highway from Springfield to join the Cunningham Highway at Yamanto - a distance of approximately 18 kilometres. Connections to the new road will be via an interchange at Springfield, roundabouts at the Swanbank Enterprise Park, Ripley Road and South Deebing Creek Road and a partial interchange at Yamanto. Toowong
Main Roads is constructing a cyclist and pedestrian overpass across the Western Freeway at the Toowong Roundabout, which will link Anzac Park to the Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens. Work will be carried out 7am-6pm, Monday to Friday. Some nightly lane closures will be necessary. Work should be completed by the end of December 2008, weather permitting. West End
Riverside Drive will be closed between Bouquet Street and Merivale Rail Bridge from until June 2010. There will also be lane closures due to roadworks on Montague Road, Merivale Street, Cordelia Street and Boundary Street until July 2010. Windsor
Permanent traffic changes are now in place on Lutwyche Road at Northey St. These changes include: No left turn from the Inner City Bypass to Lutwyche Road (Inner City Bypass traffic will need to use the Herston Road exit for access to Bowen Bridge Road). No access from Northey Street onto the Inner City Bypass. No through movement from Horace Street to Northey Street. No left turn from Northey Street to Lutwyche Road. Windsor
A full closure of Cartwright St between Lutwych Rd and Lyon St will be occurring from 6:30am 1 September to 6:30pm 3 September (continuously). It is anticipated that the closure will cause minor disruptions and delays.
Woolloongabba
Main Roads is undertaking guardrail works on the Vulture St off ramp to the Pacific Motorway. Works will commence on 31 August and are scheduled to be completed by late October 2008 (weather permitting). Works will take place on ten consecutive Sundays between 8.00am and 6:00pm. Yamanto
To enable bridge construction, westbound traffic on the Cunningham Highway near Yamanto was moved onto a new alignment on Tuesday 1 July. This new alignment is expected to be in place until October 2008.
